I’m excited to announce that the 2nd Edition of my award-winning debut novel The Lightning in the Collied Night is now on sale on major book sites including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, ThriftBooks, and Alibris, and is also available at a big discount on my home page.

The 2nd Edition has been re-edited and revised, although there’s no significant changes to the story. The biggest change from the original book is the addition of 70 pages of scenes, including the Flash Fiction scenes I published on my blog (edited, and in chronological order) plus a preview of the sequel to Lightning, The Loss of What Is Past, which is planned for publication on June 2. Also, I made a few tweaks in the 2nd Edition for consistency with the sequel, since I didn’t plan on a sequel when I wrote Lightning.

What are some of the questions that the Flash Fiction scenes in the 2nd Edition answer? Here’s some of them:

  • Was Daniel ever married? If not, why?
  • How did Lai get introduced to Star Trek in college?
  • How did Kapono learn about ho’oponopono when he was 14 years old?
  • How did Daniel and Ben meet, and why does Daniel call Ben “Benjamin”?
  • What happened after President Aida Pendamai told Daniel that her cancer had relapsed?
  • How did Lai get charged with the Hoover Tower firebombing when she was a sophomore at Stanford?
  • Why was a Buddhist chaplain present when Lai, an atheist, was informed of her parents’ tragic deaths?
  • How did Anong inform NASA of his discovery of the wormhole—and what did NASA do about it?
  • How did Irene Wilkes sabotage Katherine’s confirmation as Prometheus project director?
  • How did Kapono become chief scientist on Prometheus, and why did he agree to Lai’s replacing him?
  • How was Aileen created, and how did she get her name (and Irish brogue)?
  • How did the Prometheus team celebrate holidays such as Thanksgiving?
  • How did Aileen manage to get Chronos 2 back to Earth, when she wasn’t programmed to do it?
  • How did Chronos 4 end up in a secret warehouse in West Texas, and how was it discovered 80 years later?

Because the paperback version of the 2nd Edition is significantly longer than the original book, plus there’s been a price increase by my distribution partner, I regret that I had to increase the retail price by $2 USD, to $18.99 USD. However, I’ll continue to offer it at a large discount on my web site (USA and UK orders only), plus some retailers such as ThriftBooks and Alibris offer discounts. And the e-Book retail price is the same for the 2nd Edition, $3.99 USD.

If you haven’t yet read my debut novel, or if you just want to read “the latest and greatest” version of Lightning, I hope you enjoy the 2nd Edition.
